Rewind:
Thursday
After finishing that damn evil paper (3rd consecutive all-nighter), I went to turn it in, and then immediately proceeded to "head-bob" in class. I stumbled out of class and looked for a good place to take a nap, even though I had a math quiz in 10 minutes. Screw math. For now at least. I ended up in the bookstore, reading magazines. That was about 12. Five hours later, I got out of my seat and ended up at home. Too tired to do anything, I watched TV until I couldn't ignore my stomach any longer. Around 9 I went to go grab some Taqueria Granjenal. Before that, my last two meals were cereal. The last real meal I had before the cereal was around noon on Wednesday. Man, I feel unhealthy already. In fact, I was starting to feel like I was coming down with something as I got suckered into watching Catch Me If You Can, which my roommate recently downloaded. No homework, no slideshow prep, no substance to my day. This is madness.
Wednesday
All nighters really take a toll on you as you get closer and closer to graduation. I'm not talking about all-nighters up until 4 am. That's kid stuff. When you have an all-nighter, you see the sun come up. Little did I know I had one more all-nighter waiting for me. I woke up around 3pm and went to Catholic Appreciation Night at 7. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to make the UV concert or the first board meeting for next year's PUSO board. There's not enough of me to be as dedicated as I want to be. That's where priorities come into play. Of course, academics should rank pretty high on my priorities, but that's another story.
Tuesday
The first all-nighter. Here's an excerpt from my paper:
There it is. Did I spell everything right? I gathered enough motivation to go my attendance-graded bio class, where they talked about programs for becoming a nurse practitioner or physcian assistant. I came away thinking about whether I want to be a medical doctor/osteopathic doctor/or phsycian assistant. This is where things get complicated. I hit up PUSO and Liwanag as usual. For some reason I felt out of my skin--just not myself. My half-nocturnal schedule is really screwing me up. Our ACTS meditation was helpful though. I need a serious refocusing.
Monday
Ahh, Memorial Day. The sun stopped hiding after two cloudy days. Not that I dislike the clouds, but it seemed like it was about to rain or something. I went over to the picnic at the park hosted by John PV from YFC. I was starving... but lazy nonetheless, so I got there three hours late. By the time I got back from buying drinks and getting ice with Fran, it was already 6. The afternoon finished well though... playing catch, trying to bbq corn, shooting some hoops, holding on to dear life to keep from getting thrown into the pool, throwing Jolly in the pool, and trying to get various other people in the pool, primarily Fran. Too bad she had a deathgrip on her camera. Of course, I had a deathgrip on mine as well... Some more catch in the parking lot with Mel, followed by the relaxing drive home into the sunset. I love driving at times like that, when the roads aren't so crowded and all the cars are cruising at 80+... Good times.
Sunday
I got to work again for the AME chruch, this time for $75. If I wasn't so tired from only 3 hours sleep, I would say it was completely worth it. My lazy self kept thinking about how nice it would be, just to knock out... grab a chair... it's freaking 8 am... although I needed the money. Damn Harbor Village for raising the rent. Damn them for wanting us to sign a new lease. Damn the prospect of moving away from this great house right by the freeway and the beach and every fast food place you can think of (almost). With $80 rent, how can you go wrong? During our break, Mel and I went to noon mass and I sang in the choir, which I haven't done in weeks. I really missed singing in the choir. I feel out of place sometimes sitting at mass when I could be up in the choir. I went home around 3 and passed out... long naps suck. Damn long naps. Arrrggh...
Saturday
I woke up nice and early for the homeless outreach at 7, turned on the shower, sat on the couch while it warmed up... and the next thing I know, Malcolm the cat is chewing on my toes and it's about 8:15. That's a lot of water. Good thing I don't turn the shower on all the way, just a little when I warm it up. There's no point in turning it all the way on. I jumped in the shower (with plenty of hot water left) and rolled over to Interfaith, grabbed some doughnuts and drinks, and had just enough time to chill and talk to people before we said our prayer and loaded up the cars. We made it to LA in good time. I love following in the caravan because you're racing through traffic, like a chase. Fun stuff. Things went pretty smoothly in LA (minus some of the outreach regulars who were at Pia and Jerome's wedding), except one incident. Some dude went into GP's backseat and stole a cellphone. GP had to run after the guy and got it back. Crazy. Just kidding. My car got mobbed by a crowd of 50 people though because my car was the last one to pass out lunches. People were grabbing lunches out of my trunk, grabbing at my sweater, kids weren't getting any lunches, and they just ignored us when we told them to back up. In hindsight, we should have rolled up the street until they lined up, and used covered containers to bring out the lunches. Next time. We came back to Irvine around 2 and then 10 of us rolled to Pho Bac. I even saw my friend Alice there. The food was good, although I don't think Franchesco liked his meatball pho. Borrachi, GP, Mel, Joyce, and I talked about units. Funny stuff. The other table got their bill but our table didn't. We even stood up while 2 or 3 guys cleaned off our table. Joyce flipped a coin to see if we should just walk out (or walk away, because we ate outside) or leave money on the table. She flipped for walking away. We felt bad though, even though the service was ehhh, so Joyce and I left money with the tip for the other table. Turns out Borrachi was the only one who didn't pay. Crazy.
Friday
I went to class for the first time that week. 15 minutes worth of class. 15 minutes of class for a whole academic week. That's really bad. I'm sensing a little burn out, but I'm not sure if you can be burned out if you're not even doing anything. I met up with Cristina, Derrick, and Em, and we chilled at Costco while Fran fooled us and told us she was on her way (it sounded like she was in a car), but it took her like 30 minutes. She probably turned on a fan and spoke in the wind. That's tricky mom. We actually got everything pretty quickly once everyone showed up, and I beat everyone back to Interfaith. Not that it mattered, because we did the majority of the unloading after Praisefest. We strolled in late for Praisefest, but luckily, they're mostly Filipino... it was strange being in the audience for a rally-type of event. At UCI at least. I think I was about due, after being part of the cast/crew since forever. Good job YFC! We unloaded the rest of the stuff for the homeless outreach after Praisefest, and instead of leaving to get some sleep for the next morning, we chilled for 2 or 3 hours, practicing our PUSO Beat dance, talking and basically chilling as always. I'm going to miss all this once I graduate.
Man, if you actually read all that, mad props. Write a lil something in the chatterbox for me. Thanks.
